In light of the government guidelines for guests dining in restaurants we are continuing with protocols to ensure the safety of all at The Salty Dog.  We would ask that you read through the information below and keep us informed accordingly.

Covid Certification

In light of recent government legislation, we now have a process for checking Covid Status for these wishing to eat or drink in our public areas.








From Monday 29th November 2021 we are required by law to check the Covid status of all guests 18 and over before they can be served food and drink. NB this is NOT a vaccine passport as there are various ways of showing covid status.

1 Domestic Certificate on Phone – Scanned with app and green tick given
(Paper Domestic Certificate (example in comments) – Scanned with app + matching Photographic ID)
(EU Certificate … app or paper – Scanned with app + matching Photographic ID)
2 Negative Lateral Flow (or PCR) Reported to NHS within last 48 hours (+ matching Photographic ID)
3 Positive PCR in the preceding 30-180 Days (+ matching Photographic ID)
4 Vaccination Record Card (+ matching Photographic ID)
5 Medical exemption form via Covid Certificate Process or from Doctor (+ matching Photographic ID)
6 Proof of participation in some form of clinical trials (+ matching Photographic ID)

Whilst this law will not be enforced until 13th December we are going to use the two weeks we have to test both the government system and our systems. We ask for your patience and assure you that we will be doing our best to not impact your visit. ?

We do ask you to remember that Hospitality alone is being targeted for this system … despite the figures showing that hospitality venues are amongst the safer places to be. Please do not take any frustrations out on the team who have been, and will continue to be, doing their best to keep you safe and let you enjoy your visit with minimal disruption.

Please also note that our staff are all either vaccinated or undertaking Lateral Flow Tests on a regular basis.

If anyone wants a hand setting this up please pop in and the team will be happy to help you. You will need your driving licence or passport with you to set up your certificate.

Illness Before Visit

We ask that should any of your party feel unwell in the lead up to your reservation or classify as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable or Clinically Vulnerable that the reservation be postponed to a later date.

Symptoms of Covid-19 are a high temperature, a continuous cough and a loss of either taste or smell.

Temperature Checks

We are taking staff temperatures on arrival to work and kindly expect our guests to submit to a forehead temperature check.

Social Distancing

We would ask that guests are aware of their position with regards to other guests and staff as they move about the building, especially on the stairs or when heading to use the toilet facilities.  Please follow the staff guidelines.


Sanitising stations are located at both entrances to the building and at the entrance to the toilets and stairs to the bedrooms.  We are using soft furnishing sprays that nullifies 99.9% of cold and flu viruses on all areas that cannot be scrubbed.

We would also encourage you to follow the handwashing protocols and 20 second timing when washing your hands.

Service Procedures

We have altered our table layout to ensure social distancing and are operating a blank table setup for your arrival. Our team will as much as possible keep a minimum of 1 metre distance.

Single use menus will be presented to your party. Laminated drinks lists will be sanitised following perusal.

High Touch Surfaces

We will be regularly sanitising ‘high touch’ items like door handles, banisters and the credit card machine whilst ensuring that our service level will not be compromised. Please bear with us as we complete these tasks.

We ask that our guests pay special attention to items brought in to the building like coats, umbrellas and mobile telephones.


We are working closely with our suppliers to ensure they are following best practice compliance. Deliveries are sanitised before entering the building.

After Your Visit

We would additionally ask that guests inform us immediately if they develop any Covid-19 symptoms in the 14 days following the reservation.
